sunday social #27 – rock n roll weekend

To sum up my weekend in a few words it would be pretty simple – rock n roll. It started out with a jam session right after work on friday. One of these days we are going to get the whole band together and shows will happen. Until then all we can do is create. Though I am probably overall a smarter person, I wish I had half the talent this dude’s got.
Once the jam session ended, we did another podcast episode. It wasn’t as lively as the first and Rachel’s attitude was a little off, but some good content came out of it and I am looking forward to the next one. I have yet to get the thing on itunes, but for now you can get the feed here. We called this one the official first episode. It was a lot of fun and there will certainly be more to come.
On Saturday night I went to the orbit room to see The Gaslight Anthem, Rise Against, Thrice and The Alkaline Trio. It was a hell of a time. The gaslight anthem rocked it harder than I thought they would. Our prediction is the band is going to be huge one day. For the others, I guess I have jut gotten too far removed from these bands. Its been a long time since Revolutions Per Minute, The Illusion of Safety, and From here to Infirmary. I understand bands mature and sounds change. I just find it a little difficult to handle some times.
As for the forthcoming week, its a short work one and I get to eat a shit load of food and see the family. My plan is to bring pizza rolls as my dish to pass. I have a feeling everyone will have an opinion of my non-traditional dish, but I guarantee there will be no more left once its leaving time.
sunday social #20 – the brown out

So after this weekend, the basement bar has finally come full circle. Kate’s birthday party was more or less a pilot after what was to happen this past Saturday. Not in the sense that more people showed up or it got that crazy its just that we finally coined the name for it. That’s right, its called The Brown Out. Being that every wall in the bar is decked out with the classic wood paneling (the look I was absolutely going for in the ultimate rumpus room), its only fitting.
In Lieu of naming the bar, a few cronies and I had a couple drunken brainstorming sessions and came up with a lot big plans. Not only a beginning of a possible media empire, but with the use of cheap current technology, we can actually make this the ultimate hot bed for mid to late twenty somethings. I really don’t know what the hell I am talking about when it comes to this sort of thing but all I can say is that there are talks of live music, karaoke, video games on the projector and live video. We’ll see how much of this actually pans out. But for now we can dream.
In other news, band practice officially starts tomorrow. The bar officially doubles as the practice space. There is no band name yet, but when the time comes, a myspace page will be made. So many social networking presences, so little time!
