sunday social #40 – another year down
5 July 2009 | sunday social | No Responses
This past thursday I turned 27 years old. Part of me feels like life is flying right by. Other parts of me still feel like I’m only 18. There is never a good time not to party, just ask Andrew WK.
I don’t have big plans for the day. I’ve got a week until the first cabin run of the year and I got some python to write. The grass is already watered. I think I’m going to baste in the sun for a couple to get some color into my white ass. I’ve got a forty on ice. Lets just hope no ear wigs crawl up my ass.
Happy birthday america!
sunday social #34 – a guided tour of chicago
17 March 2009 | apartment, chicago, sunday social | No Responses
This past weekend was spent in the windy city of Chicago. Damn dude, seriously? We had a lot of fun. The weekend started off with a stop by ry guys with a warm up of carlsbad and the beamer. He lives near the actual logan square which apparently consists of a lot of hispanic patrons. Who knew?
After an arguable stretch through the many streets that looked exactly the same, we finally made it to boys town. With no parking spot. Let me know the next time you can luck out as well as I did. Once all was said and done (and a trip to the ‘bay where I saw joe thunderbird. Small world, ehh?), it was back to steve’s apartment for chicago-style pizza and a review of blazing saddles. Break’s over boys.
Saturday was different story. Actually quite the same. A little car trouble, but nothing that wasn’t handled correctly. B. roskowski was getting married and the party ensued. A tranny said dave looked like candy at a store we stopped at. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, the tequillla bar, where dave was presented with a $200 dollar dinner bill while steve got his bromance on. It was cute though.
After another bar and spilled tecate, it was back to steve’s apartment. Then, my friends, it was off the the L and L. Here, was had a Pabst and listened to some rock tunes. Hoping to see brenden kelly, the night did not go uneventful. The next stop was the wiener circle where I got chewed out by hotdog maker and told by a guy with a pony knob that if I kept up my attitude I would be biting the curb. Oh well, his loss. The whole thing was a little but like this. Only that it was St. Patty’s day weekend and the first niced-weathered day of the year.
The night ended with a last beer at ricks and a cab ride home. Unfortunately, Al’s italian beef was closed on our way back to kalamazoo on wednesday, so no cheese stakes were had. Oh well, maybe next time.
sunday social #32 – valentimes day
15 February 2009 | life, sunday social | 1 Response
Can I be honest for a moment? I fucking hate this time of year. The weather sucks, odds are you are slacking on your new years resolutions, and along comes the most ridiculous holiday of the year. I would give that to sweetest day, but I don’t considered that shit even relevant. Frankly, I don’t even know valentines days is considered a holiday.
It’s the same shit every year. I go to the store and stand around the card isle with the rest of the idiot males in the world, looking for a card that’s supposed to be romantic, yet at the same time. Its so overrated and I feel absolutely forced to do it. What would be even more romantic is if you did this on another random day during the year. I have a feeling the significant other in the relationship would appreciate it more. Yet if you don’t do anything on valentines day, odds are you are going to be in the doghouse for quote sometime, no matter how cynical the significant other can be.
As for my valentines day this year, it was pretty laid back. I wasn’t expected to make any great dinner plans nor was I expected to do anything out of the ordinary. I think I make it up on the rest of the year with lets say, I don’t know, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, Easter, forth of July, Halloween…when does it stop? Never. It never stops. I gave up sweetest day a long time ago and don’t plan to go back. Maybe, just maybe, if I can convince the rest of the world how ridiculous some of these traditional holidays are, I can start knocking a few more of they list.
sunday social #31 – new year, new weather
18 January 2009 | life, linux, mac, sunday social | No Responses
A few things happened to me this week in lieu of this crazy winter weather we have been experiencing. I got my car stuck in my driveway on friday night on my way to pick up a pizza and again this mourning trying to pull in. When I returned from the pizza joint I decided to park in the other driveway being that it was shoveled. Big mistake. I realized that its quite the luxury to start a car in the mourning when its been in a garage all night. The outside temperature said 9 degrees on saturday mourning and on my way to the store I realized my dashboard was litterally frozen. Yet once we got to the store, the purchase of a new, nicer shovel was required. While digging my car out of the snow friday night, the frozen air did a number on the thick plastic of the previous one.
Because of these frigid conditions, I didn’t spend that much time outside this week. This gave me time to write a new song and somewhat geek out. First, I replace the hard drive on the macbook which was basically a breeze. The hard part is going to be moving all of my data back to the new installation. I also attempted to build a “triple boot” scenario. I wanted to try windows 7. and being that I have a much larger hard drive now, I thought I would install ubuntu as well. It wasn’t nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. Being that its sort of unknown territory with windows 7, I thought I would have a lot more trouble. The only problem I have now is the wifi on linux, but what else is new? Maybe I can create a tutorial for this. Probably not.
I do have to say though, I am running google chrome on windows 7 as I type this (as well as my work computer) and am really liking. It may be my browser of choice once released for OSX.
Tomorrow I start my health kick. Lets see what we can’t get accomplished.
sunday social #27 – rock n roll weekend
24 November 2008 | music, podcast, rock show, sunday social, the brown out | 1 Response
To sum up my weekend in a few words it would be pretty simple – rock n roll. It started out with a jam session right after work on friday. One of these days we are going to get the whole band together and shows will happen. Until then all we can do is create. Though I am probably overall a smarter person, I wish I had half the talent this dude’s got.
Once the jam session ended, we did another podcast episode. It wasn’t as lively as the first and Rachel’s attitude was a little off, but some good content came out of it and I am looking forward to the next one. I have yet to get the thing on itunes, but for now you can get the feed here. We called this one the official first episode. It was a lot of fun and there will certainly be more to come.
On Saturday night I went to the orbit room to see The Gaslight Anthem, Rise Against, Thrice and The Alkaline Trio. It was a hell of a time. The gaslight anthem rocked it harder than I thought they would. Our prediction is the band is going to be huge one day. For the others, I guess I have jut gotten too far removed from these bands. Its been a long time since Revolutions Per Minute, The Illusion of Safety, and From here to Infirmary. I understand bands mature and sounds change. I just find it a little difficult to handle some times.
As for the forthcoming week, its a short work one and I get to eat a shit load of food and see the family. My plan is to bring pizza rolls as my dish to pass. I have a feeling everyone will have an opinion of my non-traditional dish, but I guarantee there will be no more left once its leaving time.
sunday social #24 – always be closing
3 November 2008 | blog, digg, google, house, linux, phone, rock show, sunday social | 1 Response
Holy smokes it’s been a while since my last post here and a lot has gone on in my life during these last thirty days. Day by day its getting colder and colder as we carry on towards winter ’08. Before I know it, 2009 will be here and another year of my will be behind me.
This past weekend was halloween and this year I attended a party as a pirate. I was quite proud that I whipped my costume up in about ten minutes. If I had some pictures, I’d show them but to be honest I’ve had some better ones. If I had to do it all over again, I would have traveled south to the fest. I think I’m going to make next year the year and take the plunge. I don’t think rachel would take it with me, so I need to round up a couple others that would appreciate it as much as I would.

One thing I haven’t done in a while is see a good rock and roll show. Don’t get me wrong. I got to see Mustard Plug rock it a few weeks back, but since then its been a little dry. Every time I die is playing this week in Grand Rapids and I would like to attend. As far as I’m concerned that band puts on one hell of a show. But opting out of this doesn’t lead me to a boring weekend. No no. I along with a few other brave souls will be heading up to northern Michigan for one last hurrah before the holiday slash snowy season begins. That’s right, Bear Lake, MI here we come. One final thing to mention is the presidential election is this week. McCain seemed to have given up on the mitten, but only time will tell. It’s going to be an interesting Tuesday night. As for now, Entourage is on and there’s candy to be eaten.
sunday social #23 – why i autumn!
5 October 2008 | house, sunday social | No Responses
Ahh the feelings of autumn and their regret. This time of year makes me a happy man. The change of leaf colors and the goodbye to summer. I have to say this summer was a pretty fun one. I saw some good shows and officially started a band. But that time is over and I look to the future for surprise.
I have been doing a lot of work around my house lately. I learn with a lot on my where here with a little help from those I know. To be honest with you, I dont think I would ever treck down this road again. At least not without getting paid. My back hurts, my mind is frazzled, and I may have turned into an alcoholic. Jennifer Aniston has a nice but.
I hooked up the cable in the basement and there is television in the brown out. Still working on the keno game but my main focus for the next few months will be music. Fetch my vans, I job to do. Let focus on simple sentences.
