sunday social #24 – always be closing

3 November 2008 | blog, digg, google, house, linux, phone, rock show, sunday social | 1 Response

Holy smokes it’s been a while since my last post here and a lot has gone on in my life during these last thirty days. Day by day its getting colder and colder as we carry on towards winter ’08. Before I know it, 2009 will be here and another year of my will be behind me.

This past weekend was halloween and this year I attended a party as a pirate. I was quite proud that I whipped my costume up in about ten minutes. If I had some pictures, I’d show them but to be honest I’ve had some better ones. If I had to do it all over again, I would have traveled south to the fest. I think I’m going to make next year the year and take the plunge. I don’t think rachel would take it with me, so I need to round up a couple others that would appreciate it as much as I would.

One thing I haven’t done in a while is see a good rock and roll show. Don’t get me wrong. I got to see Mustard Plug rock it a few weeks back, but since then its been a little dry. Every time I die is playing this week in Grand Rapids and I would like to attend. As far as I’m concerned that band puts on one hell of a show. But opting out of this doesn’t lead me to a boring weekend. No no. I along with a few other brave souls will be heading up to northern Michigan for one last hurrah before the holiday slash snowy season begins. That’s right, Bear Lake, MI here we come. One final thing to mention is the presidential election is this week. McCain seemed to have given up on the mitten, but only time will tell. It’s going to be an interesting Tuesday night. As for now, Entourage is on and there’s candy to be eaten.

Boyz in the hood are always hard

It appears that Boyz n the Hood has been on television the last couple of days and I happened to catch a little bit of it. I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things to do after watching a film like this one is catching up on as much trivia about it as I can. The best place I have found for this is the internet movie database. Unless of course its an eighties movie and I usually choose http://www.fast-rewind.com. Then if all else fails, I look to the wikipedia.

Moving on. So I was watching boyz in the hood last night and I found some interesting information. Apparently, a couple of the side kicks in the movie died a young death after the movie release. One actually went to prison for murder and got killed there. But another interesting fast was the filming location of it. As I mentioned before, I was on a mission. According to a post on imdb, its on Cimarron St. between 59th and 60th St. in Los Angeles. They say all of the actors lived on the during the shooting of the film. Interesting tibit I thought.

So on to the good stuff. I did a little looking around with google street view and I think I found what I was looking for.

The Styles’ residence:

Doughboy and Ricky’s house is across the street. Its a different color now and if you notice in the movie, when the kids are little, there is no fence in the yard. Latter years its there. And now its gone.

One question still remains – is Tre’s father’s name really Furious?

thats my bike punk!

While watching the lastest installment of the most played out show in the history of television (though it was funny to see that guy punch himself) I started messing around with google maps’ street view. I was searching in the los angeles area from the hollywood hills to south central. I found the watt’s towers and jordan downs where kane lived in menace II society. The coolest find I stumbled across was the house where craig lived at in the film Friday. On imdb, it says that the film was shot at 126th St. in Los Angeles. Well 126th spans over several miles in the Los Angeles, so there was no finding it clicking all the way down the thing. Then I remember smokey saying something about calling a bag of weed a “twenty twen twen” between normadie and western, which fortunately is only a span of a few blocks. After a quick virtual walk down the steet, there it was.

The house has since been painted a different color, but the brick porch remains in tact. The trees that seperate craig and Stanley’s yard are there in plain view. And kitty corner from the house the Ms. Parker’s with the retaining wall that the little dude takes the brick out and throws at bernie mac’s car.

Here see for your self. Click on this link, the on the street view button. Its on the south side of 126th St.

Next, its off to find tre’s house in boyz in the hood. Oh and on a side note, I just discovered the credits from quicksilver that list lawrence Laurence Fishburne as “Larry Fishburne”. Then after a quick look on imdb he was credited as Larry until 1992. Interesting tibit. Well to me at least.
