A week later, I finally got around to writing this. I wanted to pay homage to a man who help create some of my favorite films of all time. I can’t say if John Hughes was some kind of brilliant visionary, but he managed to capture the spirit of what I considered the greatest decade I’ve lived in, the 1980s. Jake Ryan, Clair Standish, Ferris Bueller, Long Duck Dong, Chet Donnelly and who can forget Mike Baker (maybe I should have mentioned Kevin Mcallister, but that was the 90s). Not to mention this guy pretty much made John Candy a frickin superstar.
For those of you that know me personally, know that I cherish these films. One year for Halloween, I dressed up as John Bender, but even with carrying around a racquetball all night, no one really recognized me. I mean, who didn’t want to create a hot woman by hacking into the local government’s quarters and stealing power? I could quote John’s movies for weeks and I don’t really watch movies.
One more thing to point out, and lexi put it well, this could be the end of the one-day movie. I don’t remember if I have every blogged about the one day movie, but its a theme that is quite apparent in John Hughes’ films and I have never heard anything about it. One-day movies to me, for the most part, are fun. I can’t really explain why. Maybe it’s a coincidence. Maybe it’s because these are really good films and would be great filmed otherwise (I guess with the exception being ferris bueller’s day off). In my eyes, its not a coincidence. There’s a reason here, and I can’t find evidence to prove it.
Rest in peace Mr. John Hughes, you will be missed.
