conclusions, conclusions…

I came to the conclusion last week that its not 2007 anymore, but in fact, its 2009. Summer is right a round the corner. Over the last week, I had some vacation, rachel turned a quarter of a century, and the red wings clinched the western conference. As the summer begins, I feel I need to set some goals.
One of my goals is to learn a new programming language. I first thought I would take a stab at a bunch of them, but the way I poke at things it would probably be meaningless. Plus I don’t want to be an inch deep and a mile wide. At this point it’s a toss up between python and objective-C. I’ve made a hello world app with both, and after more research, python would probably be the faster one to get my head around. One is compiled, one is interpreted. This brings another dimension to it, but that’s not one really worth getting into here. Basically one would be for developing iphone applications, the other for furthering my web development skills. Decisions, decisions.
Another goal is to make some progress musically. I have a couple things in the works and have confidence something will work. It’s simply a matter of applying myself.
The third is to get into some better physical shape. How I am going to do this with working, learning a new language, playing music, and being at rachel’s beck and call, who knows? Time management and a gtd schedule maybe?I got audio books and a commute. Come on and convince me.
apparently, it isn't 2007 anymore

Sometimes, you just have to sit back and think about your current situation. This past week, I had two friends leave the Kalamazoo for new endeavours. Gaining on the cusp of my late twenties, things are starting to get very nostalgic around here. Shit that feels like it happened last week turns out to be two years ago. I go to harveys now and don’t even know the waitress. What kind of shit is this? Then I walk around the corner and I see this:
I lived in an apartment that used to stand in this dirt pile. Rachel and I would frequent harveys a couple times a week before it was cool. Back when Pabst was on special for $1.75 then it was changed to Old Style, then back to Pabst. Then tonight, by the way of a certain article, I came across this video. It reminds me of this exact time of year two years ago. In this apartment. It made me want to run to my acoustic guitar and start playing it. I was never a huge fan of hot water music. I mean, they were (are) good, but nothing that ever hit like chuck’s solo shit did.
Again, I feel like I am spinning the wheels creatively. Its time to step it up. Banks or no banks. I have to get this tree out of the way first.

This should probably be filed under sunday social, but since I don’t have the time (on sunday?), it will be made late.
Last weekend was mother’s day. If any one knows a lick about me they know it’s a tough one to swallow personally. Regardless, I made my way through. And excitement ensued. Although, most of the excitement really was had on Friday night. Jason, Dave, and I headed to GR for a punk rock show. Maybe you don’t call it that these days. All I can say is that there were a bunch of chicks with tapered pants and flannel shirts, mixed with late twenty something dudes with facial hair. I know, that’s a long way from what went on in the eighties and nineties, but people grow, they get older.
What should have ended as a full stomach and short cab ride home, ended in a guy not being nice at all. I totally understand that the staff at yesterdawg deal with a ton drunk people night in and night out, but all we wanted was a couple of specials. Now, I won’t go into detail about the conversations that were had, but I will say that jason probably didn’t make the smartest of remarks.
This jerk refused to serve us:

Looks like a winner to me.
What should have been a cherry on top of a night (according to dave d.), ended with a shit sandwich. Regardless, the night rocked hard and I may have a lead on the browncast getting syndication. Internets…you need us.

So this past weekend was a pretty wild one. Not only did I get to hang out at jason’s pad but I also get a couple of hours of this:
Needless to say I couldn’t hear shit yesterday mourning and my whole right side feels like I got a baseball bat upside it. Not only was I worn out from the rock fest, but the red wings also lost. That’s right, the playoffs have started again. The wings blew through the first round only to catch thier first loss yesterday. I highly dislike chris pronger. Did I say that already?
I had very large case of the mondays today. Buying that rebel yell yesterday was a horrible idea. Oh well, the week is young and I have a lot to do.
See you on the other side.
