sunday social #29 – 2008 holiday special

First thing’s first – hippies need to learn how to rock. When I think of a rock show, the first thing that comes to my mind is ROCK. Not standing around listening to the same guitar noodling over and over. Next time I’m invited I don’t think I’m gonna go.
Here are a few highlights of my trip to Muskegon this past weekend:
- I got joey cape on vinyl in the 300 limited edition brown color. Score! The bad thing is they forgot to ship my t-shirt.
- I saw Bill Whiting at a bar with a Hartford whalers sweatshirt on.
- I saw my dear friend Craig Belasco for the first time in a year and a half.
- I went to Rachel’s dear friends engagement party and apparently called her by her sister’s name. Next time this happens, someone speak up! I have no recollection of this and if someone said something I wouldn’t feel like such an ass.
- Last but not least, I got to “bro out” with the best of friends(and possibly made some new ones).
The thing is here, the holidays bring out the best in everyone. Rock band can make anyone a star. As for me, I am off to work for a few days then its back to vacation. The red wings are playing the blackhawks this year and I have to get my game face on. Here’s to all the haters who told me I would never host a radio show (and those who say not showering in three days is disgusting).
This looks like someone I know:

With x-mas coming up this thursday, life is not as hectic as one would think. I have all of my shopping done and I’m ready for some days off of work in these next couple of weeks. It seems like thanksgiving was yesterday and I know this holiday season is just going to fly by. So we have to make that shit last.
On top of the craziness of the season, its been the coldest week of the year so far. It sort of got up into the mid-twenties there for a couple of days, but today it was in the single digits. The only time I went outside was to shovel the driveway so I can get to work tomorrow mourning. So this lead me to spend the whole day on the couch working on the new design for the browncast. I copped the design from copyblogger because it was free. So I added the brown touch to it.
A strange thing happened while I was working on updating the new theme I got a random twitter from bluberry telling me they have a podcast plugin for wordpress. Being that I couldn’t get podpress to work with this theme, I thought I would give it a whirl. And lone behold, it work. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have the statistics that podpress did, so I will have to look into this.
So I guess its off the holidays. Merry x-mas.

These past couple of weeks have been a little wild and I have so much to write about. But I don’t really feel like it. Nothing witty is coming into my mind regarding these events, so I’m just gonna go for it.
First things first. Dave graduated college last week and of course, we had to celebrate. It was the prefect opportunity for the brownout to host another party. So we did. But being that its so close to the holidays, we decided to have a x-mas party as opposed to a boo-boo juice party. We kind of thought a boo-boo juice / malt liquor party would be better celebrated in the summer time.
So we forged on with the x-mas party. We went out and bought some ridiculous looking sweaters and a lot of lights. A giant santa was also purchased and it was required that you get your picture taken next to it before you enter. Apparently santa really likes his rum.
So for the next couple weeks I will be busy with the holidays. Once santa visits my home, I am hoping to have more gadgets to get way more media to this site and else where. Expect a lot of av whether it comes in the form of music, talk radio, or personal interviews.
In sadder news, Florence Procko passed away. You will be missed.
Also, the latest browncast is up. Go and take a listen. Don’t be afraid to let us know what you think.

Ah thanksgiving. This is always an interesting time of year. Its very similar to christmas, except without some of the magic. This year seemed to be unusually cold though. I ate a lot of food and drank my fair share. I saw plenty of people I haven’t seen in a while, so that was nice. Yet its always a little uncomfortable to try and catch up with so many people at one time. I guess that’s one of the reason’s I keep this blog up to date. I’m thinking about making a business card with just my website address on it. You know, for the next year or so.
The work week was a short one and once back in Kalamazoo, I got some work done around my house. I scored a record player that works great along with a free Barry Manilow double live album. As soon as I got home yesterday, I played some On the Dark Side and rocked out for a while. It seemed everyone around me thought is was pretty ridiculous that I was purchasing vinyl records without something to play them on. But that’s all changed now. So I guess you could say this wasn’t much of a giving holiday.
This year also had a good representation of west michigan high school football teams in the state finals. Of course the Mona Shores Sailors we not there, but being that I spent more than half of my K-12 education in the Muskegon Public School System, I felt somewhat personally represented.
I haven’t started my christmas shopping yet, so the next couple of weeks should be fun. I will be scouring the toy isles searching for the perfect toy for my nieces and nephews. My heart goes out to those who lost their life over deals at walmart.
