sunday social #27 – rock n roll weekend
24 November 2008 | music, podcast, rock show, sunday social, the brown out | 1 Response
To sum up my weekend in a few words it would be pretty simple – rock n roll. It started out with a jam session right after work on friday. One of these days we are going to get the whole band together and shows will happen. Until then all we can do is create. Though I am probably overall a smarter person, I wish I had half the talent this dude’s got.
Once the jam session ended, we did another podcast episode. It wasn’t as lively as the first and Rachel’s attitude was a little off, but some good content came out of it and I am looking forward to the next one. I have yet to get the thing on itunes, but for now you can get the feed here. We called this one the official first episode. It was a lot of fun and there will certainly be more to come.
On Saturday night I went to the orbit room to see The Gaslight Anthem, Rise Against, Thrice and The Alkaline Trio. It was a hell of a time. The gaslight anthem rocked it harder than I thought they would. Our prediction is the band is going to be huge one day. For the others, I guess I have jut gotten too far removed from these bands. Its been a long time since Revolutions Per Minute, The Illusion of Safety, and From here to Infirmary. I understand bands mature and sounds change. I just find it a little difficult to handle some times.
As for the forthcoming week, its a short work one and I get to eat a shit load of food and see the family. My plan is to bring pizza rolls as my dish to pass. I have a feeling everyone will have an opinion of my non-traditional dish, but I guarantee there will be no more left once its leaving time.
sunday social #26 – the pilot

This past week was sort of an interesting one. I finally ventured out in the world of podcasting. Last night was a hell of a good time. If all goes well, I am hoping to put one these out every week. I was set on recording the thing in the lab, but everyone voted against me and we ended up recording it at the bar.
Once recorded, I set up a site for it and added the podcasting plugin for wordpress. Drew actually coined the name, and I think it will stick. Its going to be called The Browncast and I think the name is quite fitting. There is a lot more work to do though. Firstly, the design of the site was whipped up in about a half hour, so I have to work on that. I basically stole the joef.org design and made everything brown. I also have to add it to itunes in order to get a viable options for our listeners.

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think. I didn’t post the whole thing because its very long and there is this buzzing in the background the entire time. But tomorrow is another week and I am going to my first rock show in a long time. I’m kind of stoked.
e.t., lets not phone home and say we did

Lately I have been getting a little fed up with my cell phone. I am at the point now where I have to charge the thing at least everyday. I guess it doesn’t sound that bad, but I used to be able to get three days out of it with no problem. It doesn’t help that I have multiple applications running on it most of the time, but I think windows mobile should take some responsibility for that.
The kicker here is this phone is not even a year old. My two year contract is up next june with T-Mobile and the fact that two phones over the course of that time can’t even make it is ridiculous. I was thinking about getting an iphone once my contract is up, but what happens if I plan to use it as my ipod as well? Bye bye battery life, hello dead air. Not to mention the ridiculous contract these companies make you sign. So I have to pay you to no longer use your service, even though it sucks. This is a whole other entry, so let’s not go down that road.
I’m beginning to realize this argument is making less and less sense being that I use my phone for way more things than phone calls. The point is the cell phone industry has a lock on society and I’m tired of it. Lets all go back to land lines. Life was so much simpler then.

I recently made a post about FlickrBooth. I mentioned the application uploaded videos to youtube and I decided to give it a try. I actually have no recollection of making this video, but according to the records, it dates back a few weeks.

I’ve spent a lot of the last two weeks locked up in the lab doing a number of things. some of that time time was spent trying new software after listening to mac break weekly (well. weekly). Though I didn’t discover this software on the program, I knew it had to be out there. After one google search, there it was.
What I was looking for was a way to integrate Photo Booth with my flickr account. If any of you folk out there use flickr and photo booth, I’d suggest you check out FlickrBooth. I don’t plan on taking that many photos with photo booth, but for personal videos, it will work great. It not only integrates with flickr, but also with you tube. Look out vloggers, here I come.
And those of you who haven’t heard of boxee yet, you better get with the program.
thinking about a party at the brown out

A while has past since we have a get together at the brown out. I think the last descent one was when Dave first moved in. A couple months have past, floors have been installed, and its gotten a little colder outside. As I look over at a great accomplishment of mine, I am thinking its due for another celebration.
We were throwing around some ideas this past weekend and I think we came to a conclusion. Being that the holidays are coming up, you’d think we’d come up with a theme referencing that. but surprisingly we didn’t even come close. When my idea for a christmas in july theme was quickly shot down, someone brought up the idea for a boo boo juice party.
To be totally honest, I’ve drank a lot of boo boo juice in my life without knowing what it was. Or did I? I am getting mixed signals from the internet. And after getting recipes this past summer along the lines of striping to go naked and another involving two popsicles as the secret ingredient, I didn’t know what to think of this idea.
Ultimately I think its going to be simplified to a malt liquor party. That’s right, forty ouncers and cheap wine. I would really like to get something I can put in my fridge that hold the bottles perfectly like in the Dr. Dre video, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Maybe a keg of Colt 45? Billy Dee Williams would be proud.
I know exactly who think I am

So I created a post last week and had some time to think about it over the weekend. I came to the conclusion that it really doesn’t matter how bad my grammar is or that I can’t correctly form sentences. Its all about the content. The more the better. That right. As long as I keep cranking out this blog posts, something’s got to give. Even if I have no idea what that something is.
Now to the real reason I created this post. I read this article tonight and it got me thinking again. I realized (again, thinking) that I was actually thinking while away from work, so I thought the world should know. This is the beginning of the end people. These labels are dropping like flies trying to re-invent themselves.
The even weirder part was shortly after reading this article, I saw these two chicks on mtv cribs. I don’t know how old this episode is, but how have I not heard of these two? With all of these labels falling by the wayside and a plethora of good music out there today, its hard to understand how these girls are on mtv and that they are obviously making money.
Its OK though, I’m not bitter. Their sixteen and have brand new benz. I am twenty-six and have a scion. At least I know how to operate mine. And mudvayne has gone easy listening. Maybe its more marketable to the mtv generation?
