sunday social #14 – Jared S. Fogel

29 June 2008 | subway, sunday social | 1 Response

I happened to stumble across this website yesterday for reasons I don’t remember. It appears that Jared the subway guy has passed on. According to this website, he died from “to abnormal abdominal adhesions resulting from his 1998 gastric bypass surgery” which surprises me actually. I was under the impression that he lost weight from walking to and eating sandwiches from subway. Wasn’t that the the entire marketing idea they were selling us on? Seven grams of fat in a sandwich and shit. I am feeling a bit betrayed here. Its sad to see this guy go, but he made a living off eating sandwiches and talking about it. Basically being subway’s bitch. I’ve been doing the same thing for the last fifteen years of my life and I had to pay for them.

Since we are on the topic of years of my life, I am turning twenty-six this wednesday. I don’t have any big plans, but we’ve tossed up the idea of going to the hibachi grill or harveys. Regardless I have a short work week with two basement shows to attend ending in a barbecue at my dads house on saturday. If anyone cares to join feel free to get a hold of me.

This past week wasn’t that interesting at all even with participating in quite a bit of nightlife action.  I did sing karaoke no two of nights. I really have to cool it with that. Its beginning to lose its appeal to me. Maybe I should just stop singing bruce springsteen songs. I need a new challange.

I just realized that micheal keaton’s character in beatlejuice is a total rip off leatherface’s brother from the texas chainsaw massacre 2. And to think they had me fooled all these years on how creative that film was. I saw the texas chainsaw massacre 2 in the early nighties some time but never made the connection. Seriously, who can you trust these days?

And why did the link maker in wordpress stop working for me? Hand coded it is.

Holy shit this pass week was something else. It was very jam packed and I don’t know where to begin. First of all, I got my hands totally dirty with some very not-up-to code electrical work in my basement. I installed five outlets, two lights, and one switch on two new separate breakers. Honestly it wasn’t that difficult, only very scary installing a new circuit breaker. Knowing the amount of electricity that flows through that box, I couldn’t help be very timid when the whole thing went down. The moment I turned the lights on and they work, it all made sense. Bob Vila would have been proud.

The idea of getting all of this set up was because my sister was turning thirty on saturday and I needed to get the bar hooked up because we were having a party. Dave and I spent a good portion of friday night and saturday mourning trying to get the kegerator to flow right. Once all was finally working correctly, I had no idea what we did different, but it worked flawlessly. We had the dispenser in the wall and the correct amount of CO2 come party time.

Once all was said and done, it  appeared everyone had a good time. The cops showed up because apparently they didn’t like the idea that we were lighting off illegal fireworks that darrough brought over. Its probably a good thing I didn’t talk to him, but from what I hear he was pretty cool. Regardless, I gotta have more parties like that one. Now that I think about it, my birthday is next week. Maybe thats too soon? Ahh, I’m getting a keg anyway.

When sunday came along, I was presented with some bad news. My basement reeks like beer and somehow I erased my entire itunes collection thats was on the mac mini. I was doing a remote desktop thing, so maybe that had something to do with. It really makes no sense and its times like this that I can’t honestly say OSX is that superior of an operating system.

In other news, the new Lagrecia (and apparently the only one they will release) came out today. I wasn’t quick enough to the draw to get a free version, but I’ll jam the stream and if it lives up, I will certainly purchase it. From the first couple of rounds, I’m not sure if I’m sold yet.

This week was full of mayhem and I don’t really know where to begin. First of all, I had half of a tree fall down on my cable line in my front yard. It was pretty wild, but ultimately we got over it and met some new neighbors along the way. Nice guys, nice guys. They came over with the chainsaw and took care of business. If anyone wants some kinilin, let me know.

On to event two. I went to the greek fest last night and got to see the gin blossoms play. My mid-nighties rock dream finally came true. One of the first songs I ever learned on the guitar was hey jealousy. I gotta say it was really fun until the rain came. Then, in my punk rock prowess, I tried to get adam up to crowd surf and apparently you cant do that. So he was kicked out and I was toast for the remainder of the night. But hey, for being fifteen years in the past, the gin blossoms made it fun.

In my third venture, I have to say, some people just could be a lot nicer. I went to a vegan barbecue and apparently some people don’t take liking to the fact that I think airheads is the best film ever made. Seriously, schindler’s list was not that good and if you want to go apples to apples, let focus on the the eighties. I watched pretty in pink today and must admit that it might just trump both of them.

And for my final awesome part of the week, I cut my hair. Well not exactly. The detroit red wings won the STANLEY CUP. Thats right, the wings took the steel city and it was totally awesome. I guess the shitty part about the whole thing was not hearing the detroit fans in the crowd once was all said and done. When Nick Lindstrom picked up that cup and skated around with it, I was waiting for the roar of the crowd but it wasn’t there. My theory was they would win in five which probably should have happened but what are you going to do? Wings win, I shave my face, and all is good in the fearnley house hold. My sister is turning thirty next week and I am having a party. The kegs will be flowing and the bar will be hooked up. Come on over. Once is all said and done, I wont remember a thing.

So its official, I have gone two weeks without making a blog entry. Last week was memorial day weekend, I was busy, and it was rachel’s birthday. Speaking of which, I am beginning to feel like a total ass that I didn’t join her at the premier of sex and the city. Instead I am here listening and watching the live stream of the latest twit installment and blogging away to you the reader. I also had to mow the lawn with my pseudo lawnmower. I know I am keeping the earth healthy but the fact that this thing doesn’t cut a piece of grass over 5 inches leaves me kind of screwed.

Regardless how busy I am on this sunday afternoon, the red wings won on yesterday and the possibility of winning the stanley cup tomorrow night are strong. I have to play golf beforehand, but will be done by eight and its going to be on. As far as I am concerned, pittsburgh got lucky as hell last week with their only win. Their holding on for dear life and all I can say is “good luck”.

I’ve been trimming my beard after every round of the playoffs and its doesn’t look any better than after the first. I also got new tires and am $200 dollars broker. But thats OK, I’m a believer.

LET’s GO RED WINGS.
