So I read today that a MacGyver movie is in the works. I had to ask myself one question – how far can we really push this Hollywood? One of the adjectives used in the explanation of it is “big budget”. Seriously, stick a fork in me because if this is the future of our creative society that I really dont want to be a part of it.
How much of this can can we honestly dig up from our this nostalgic society? Dont get me wrong, I am very nostalgic and think every piece of cinematography from the eighties whether it be a movie or sitcom is a gem. What some of the directors did in that decade with the technology they had was amazing. And I suppose some horrendous, but that was the cool thing about it. I only begin to think about some of the situations MacGyver would be in today and somehow get himself out of. But I would rather they rip it off than try to remake a classic.
I think the only way I would watch something like this is if Richard Dean Anderson played Angus MacGyver, the creators filmed it so it looked like television from the late eighties, the bald fat guy was going to be in it, and the only format they release it on was VHS. I would certainly have respect for that. Really, what’s next? A new rendition of miami vice. Let it go man.
