OK, so I am a bit late on this one, but I am on vacation, Thats my excuse and I’m sticking to it. Unfortunately I didn’t get to go to new york, but the weather was nice here in west michigan and I got a lot of work done around the house. I cooked a lot of hamburgers, watch the dustin hoffman biography, and finally held band practice. Lets hope the ball will keep rolling on this. If anyone out there wants to play the bass in a punk band, just let me know.
Another thing I did was get to see a lot of television over the last five days. Twice I saw the red wings lose. Tonight’s a different story though. I say wings over the pens in five, I’m calling it right now. I also got to watch licence to drive this weekend. Its one of my favorites and never gets old. And finally, I discovered that I get the independent film channel since upgrading my cable package. I watched an documentary on on wargamming called “darkon” that was quite interesting. I also saw The Decline of Western Civilization part II two times today. This makes me want to go to the eighties and join a metal band. This movie is seriously unbelievable. Here’s just a glimpse of what can be seen in the beauty of a film:
I also got the best news I have heard in a long time. I hope this tour expands to the mid-west because I’m totally there.

If there is one movie from my junior high years at bunker schooll that I can repeat every word to, it has to be class act. I suppose its a toss up between that and caddyshack, but if one to were ask dan, he would beg to differ. For the love, for the hate. For the blade brown. The weirdest part is that these guys are like 30 when this movie is filmed and are suppose to be in high school.
I also remember when a class act was a summer’s demise.

I recently ran across this article on stylegala recently and it got me thinking about the footer (or slack there of) on my site. To be honest, the way I designed everything with this single column layout, it kind of leaves me with limited options. I’ve wanted to do something with the footer for a while now, but haven’t put forth time or creativity for it.
I always wanted three things – my flickr feed, my digg feed, and something pertaining to the music I am currently listening to. The flickr things an easy one. As far as the digg feed goes, nothing seems to be working for me. I keep getting these damn php errors for the fetch_rss() built in function for wordpress. And for a while there, the feed just seemed to go away, so I just gave up on it. Another options is to dabble with the digg api. I’ve been dealing with api’s a lot at work lately even beginning to design one myself, so I have a pretty good grasp on the idea and might give that go. I’ve also began to use del.icico.us thats to this sweet firefox plugin. Yet I don’t find many stories outside of digg, so using del.icio.us is a bit redundant. Yet I do visit a few blogs outside of digg, so I will probably save that for those gems.
I really wish I could find a music plugin with album art. I guess I just want something a little more automated becuase I dont feel like updating the area often. I think I am going to get knee deeper in some php this weekend, so maybe I can write something to streamline this a bit. We’ll see.
Ultimately this makes me realize how sub-par the usibilty of this blog is. But I was shooting for simplicity in the design and I think I got fairly close to that mark. Some of my favorite web designs are those that make a perfectly usable feature out of something no one would have ever thought could work. So I guess I’ll work my way closer to that bullsize.

So this past week wasn’t interesting at all. With that being said, its off to the news. I went back to the homeland this weekend for friends, family, and mothers. The redwings won on saturday and Chris Osbad got hacked. The good news is that I am going on vacation for three days and making a trek to new york city. Thats right the big apple. I plan to attend a yankees game and if all goes accordingly, I will stand in the same stretch of road steve martin did outside his high profile job in planes, trains, and automobiles.
While I was at my parents house, it was brought to my attention that I still have more “shit” in their basement. After a little bit of exploring, I see that I never took my entire CD collection home with me last christmas. I figure that I have my own house now, so what better time to take it with me? I brought it home, looked at the 150 square platic units in front of me and was amazed how many memories came back me. In seventh grade, I aquired the entire Ozzy Osbourne discography when obseesed with Randy Rhoads and Jake E. Lee. I also went through a solid phase in highschool where I listened to quite a bit of hip hop and bought records by Cappadonna and The Wu-Tang Clan. And of course, the 90′s seattle sound from the workings of band like nirvava and alice in chains.
One of my first thoughts was my dad telling how of a horrible idea it was spending all of the money I earned peddling papers in junoir high on compact dics. His main point was that when I got to be forty, I would never listen to them. Well, I’m twenty-five and after looking through this collection, I probably wont listen to half of these records ever again. Not necessarily that they are bad(well maybe some), but I ed have listened to all of them so much, I have no desire to now at all.
I guess the question arises – is it because none of these are new or am I truely just sick of listening to them? Has the over-abundance of music these days killed the music I grew up on? Some say the good music will live through anything. I suppose that is right, but I also think these modern times in music expose the ugliness of music that should have never seen the light of day in the first place. I’ve aquire around three hundred compact discs since my family got our first boombox with built-in CD player at age 10. I think that if the revolution of file sharing never took off, I would have twice as many these days. There is something about a massive CD collection that makes you say “harumph”.
What is one to make of all this? Its just my random thoughts so nothing really. Its just my infactuation with the future of the musicbuissness. I guess I’m just really excited to see what the next business model will be for music. Really, we have no one to blame but these fat cats trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. I smell bacon and I’m hungry, so I gotta go.
In other news, it was brought to my attention that no one is commenting on this site because there is no link to them. I added it so there are no more excuses.

I couldn’t resist on this one. I just saw the alkaline trio on the mtv television program the hills. It’s hard for me to believe that these guys actually dress like this while recording. What’s with the drummer’s shades? Regardless, Lauren obviously believes sushi is way more important that matt skiba and company. I guess I wont see her at the show.

So I read today that a MacGyver movie is in the works. I had to ask myself one question – how far can we really push this Hollywood? One of the adjectives used in the explanation of it is “big budget”. Seriously, stick a fork in me because if this is the future of our creative society that I really dont want to be a part of it.
How much of this can can we honestly dig up from our this nostalgic society? Dont get me wrong, I am very nostalgic and think every piece of cinematography from the eighties whether it be a movie or sitcom is a gem. What some of the directors did in that decade with the technology they had was amazing. And I suppose some horrendous, but that was the cool thing about it. I only begin to think about some of the situations MacGyver would be in today and somehow get himself out of. But I would rather they rip it off than try to remake a classic.
I think the only way I would watch something like this is if Richard Dean Anderson played Angus MacGyver, the creators filmed it so it looked like television from the late eighties, the bald fat guy was going to be in it, and the only format they release it on was VHS. I would certainly have respect for that. Really, what’s next? A new rendition of miami vice. Let it go man.
