While watching the lastest installment of the most played out show in the history of television (though it was funny to see that guy punch himself) I started messing around with google maps’ street view. I was searching in the los angeles area from the hollywood hills to south central. I found the watt’s towers and jordan downs where kane lived in menace II society. The coolest find I stumbled across was the house where craig lived at in the film Friday. On imdb, it says that the film was shot at 126th St. in Los Angeles. Well 126th spans over several miles in the Los Angeles, so there was no finding it clicking all the way down the thing. Then I remember smokey saying something about calling a bag of weed a “twenty twen twen” between normadie and western, which fortunately is only a span of a few blocks. After a quick virtual walk down the steet, there it was.

The house has since been painted a different color, but the brick porch remains in tact. The trees that seperate craig and Stanley’s yard are there in plain view. And kitty corner from the house the Ms. Parker’s with the retaining wall that the little dude takes the brick out and throws at bernie mac’s car.
Here see for your self. Click on this link, the on the street view button. Its on the south side of 126th St.
Next, its off to find tre’s house in boyz in the hood. Oh and on a side note, I just discovered the credits from quicksilver that list lawrence Laurence Fishburne as “Larry Fishburne”. Then after a quick look on imdb he was credited as Larry until 1992. Interesting tibit. Well to me at least.

magnuson, keith (1947 – 2003)
While watching the red wings game yesterday, I see that chris chelios wears a sticker that’s a tribute to keith magnuson. To be honest, I had no idea this guy died. When I was about eight years old, I met him and stan makita at racquets after a lumberjacks game with my dad. I still have his autograph somewhere. I guess I never knew what kind of impact this guy had on the nhl. I know the impact stan makita had, I mean the dude’s got his own donut shop in chicago. Regardless the impact, just rest in peace my man.
In other news I am very close to finishing my basement bar. I’ve not only become a carpenter in the last month but an upholstery wizard as well. Before I know it the beer will be flowing and drinks will be spilled. Does anyone know where I can get a red flashing siren light?

I would like to make a correction from my last post. Apparently the red wings dont play dallas, I got the bracket screwed up. Instead, its back to the cross-country rivalry between detroit and colorado. Though I really think the great days of this rivalry are well behind us. Its really got to do with the fact that most of the players who participated in the glory days of the mid to late nineties have either retired or have gone on to new things. No more Steve Yzerman or Brendan Shannahan, no more Mike Vernon or Patrick Roy, no more Claude Lemieux and certainly no more Dino Ciccarelli. Of course there are still a couple of hanger ons like Joe Sakic and Nick Listrom (and I suppose you could include Darren McCarty), but I dont recall how much of an impact these guys had on the whole situation. Maybe a little, but more a a finesse factor than a physical one. If you can prove me wrong on this one, feel free to comment.
I’m pretty confident about the wings at this point. The past few years they’ve blown in the the first round against one of the lowest seeded teams. With that behind them at this point, I hope they can get back in the groove of things especially after being off for a few days.
Lets see a few memories shall we:

Time ticks, teeth click and we don’t have any chicks. Chicks? We don’t have any chips!
chips! chips!
Sorry, thats a bad movie reference but a great way to start out a sunday social. The good thing about this week is that the weather is getting totally awesome here in west michigan but I’m not getting too excited. It seems that it does this every year around this time and the april showers kick in. Then when the end of june rolls around the warm weather really hits, which brings me to my next conclusion.
I seem to be gaining weight like those mountain tops losing snow that al gore shows in his movies . Slowly but surely. As the pureness of the earth’s atmosphere fades, so does my slenderness. I guess I have it all to blame on the beer and bar food I eat. And when I mean bar food I mean only bars that serve pizza. There’s something about that cheese and zesty sauce that draws me in. So this must be the time to kick it in to second gear and man up to the resolution I made this year. Plenty of push ups and lots of rope to be jumped. We’ll see if I can do it the natural way. I have a plan to eat a lot of salads and drink a lot of malt liquor this spring and summer.
In other news I got to try out the grill this weekend. We cooked ribs, chicken, burgers, and even…thats right…pizza. It was really hot when I tried to take it off of the grill though. Maybe I did something wrong but it tasted great and I broke the sink in the process some how. And the red wings won. Round two! Off to texas for a good time and great barbecue.
I watched some superb eighties movies this weekend. I saw bachelor party, cant buy me love, red dawn and the principle. I also watched the nofx show on fuse a couple of times this week. I gotta say its quite amusing but I continue to struggle with the fact that they actually have a show on national television. Regardless, I’ll keep watchin’ hoping that I really dont have to trump college chicks about sex in the city trivia again.

Its an interesting time of year here in michigan. It was seventy degrees on friday and I will be damned if I didn’t see it snow this mourning. Regardless, I can finally say good riddance to winter and its on to the warmer. I would first like to check in on my new years resolutions. For some reason, I shot big this year and chose three. I have certainly written more blogs this year, but only have written one song and hit the gym about once. The year’s a quarter down and I have a long way to go. Time to take it to the streets. This next week is going to bring new things to my life. Whether its for the good or worse.
In other news I decided yesterday that I growing the playoff beard again. I have two superstitions this year. The first is not letting the red wings koozie out of my sight. And of course growing the beard again. Its hasn’t worked that well in the past couple of years, but I have a feeling about this one. I also did some research on the playoff beard and apparently it doesn’t only pertain to hockey these days.
I had a lazy weekend and made absolutely no progress on my basement construction. I did see a wild turkey fly in my backyard though. It was probably one of the most interesting things I have ever witnessed. The grill is together and it screaming for a cooking. Bring it on spring 2008, I have been waiting.

This story happened to catch my internet waves yesterday. Well, I guess its not really a story, its a documentary about wikipedia and the freedom of the internet as a communication medium. It touches on idea of “web 2.0″ regarding social networks, blogs, etc. and if this direction the world is turning is good or bad. I suppose we all have our opinions and after seeing this I am not sure where I stand on letting any geek off the street declaring “facts” as “facts”. I do remember the encyclopedia britannica commercials of the 80′s where the blond-haired dude stands in front of a book shelf trying to sell america on these things. I had the whole set growing up and referenced them on every report I had to do.
The african guy brings up the issue – can we produce knowledge as a community? Does someone claiming to study a subject for thirty years make them an expert? Regardless, this film makes you think about it. And I’m not sure about this andrew keen guy. I think I would take tim o’rielly’s vision over his, but I just can’t get his voice out of my head.
