black history month

28 February 2006 | black history month, life | No Responses

I managed to scramble through this entire month without acknowledging one of my favorite cultures. I dont watch very much TV, but it I really havent seem that much about Black History Month. I have no theories on why this is and frankly dont want to get in the habit of caring. Yet this is difficult because over the past year I have met some really great people. Some of them have even become part of my family and for this I am thankful.

I watched one film in particular in january that made think a bit. I want to pay omage to one inidividual that I think we can all learn from . Young, black, and dont give a f**k….America’s worst nightmare…my dog…your dog…old dog.

So, for what it is worth, happy Black History Month everyone! Let the admired know.

I read the most interesting article a few weeks back. I even read it 2 more times since, including once today. I have officially been made aware that I am not the only person that has to deal with this. I have purchased a new t-shirt and plan on wearing it often.

I have also decided to change the name of my occupation when I tell people. My professional title is now software engineer, which I dont really know if I can consider myself one, but if someone actually proves to me that I am not one, then that person can refer to my occupation as computer programmer.

Like the author mentions in the article, I neither do not fully trust computers. If I have any significant data on my computer, I back it up so if something were to go ary, it wont take me long to reinstall the operating system (unless of course I am installing gentoo). Even though the process can be irritating, it is worth it to me.

So the next time you cant connect to the internet, realize this is a networking issue and I learned nothing about this topic in school other than using the ssh terminal and a web browser, so to be completely honest, odds are I dont know. If I were to attempt to solve your problem, you can do what I would do since I have no more knowledge than you do (at least on this subject). Before the faintest thought of the combination of *joe* and *computer* pop into your head, go to google and type in your problem or error message. Odds are, you are probably not the first person this has happened to, and there is a solution.

But I have a hard time saying no to people, so I will probably fake like I do know and try to help.

happy v-day
